Great app to play music over any UPnP / DLNA devices (also on phone). Work fine with Foobar2000 foo_upnp plugin.

Free version limited to 4 tracks in playlist ..

Improvements to do as music player (can't seek, no multi playlists / can't retrieve remote playlists as player playlists), and to manage multiple devices configurations.

Hi Simon,
I found your article quite instructive. In fact, having purchased a laptop, I wanted the flexibility of using it in the house without having to worry about cabling. I also wanted to network it with the older desktop. I have now done this, having purchased an ADSL Wireless G Modem Router. No change of internet addresses, no involvement of my internet provider and no fuss.
So thanks,
Regards,
Doug

I just finished a book on government web sites and that led to some web 2.0 research questions regarding civic engagement and the relationships between citizens and all levels of government:

1. How has Web 2.0 changed relationships?
2. What are the affects of the changes in relationships caused by Web 2.0?
3. Have Web 2.0 effects been beneficial?

If you are interested in contributing to a book that looks at these questions please see the call for chapters at: http://www.igi-global.com/AuthorsEditors/AuthorEditorResources/CallForBookChapters/CallForChapterDetails.aspx?CallForContentId=83a379cb-7965-453b-8b6c-8210bfcda664

The HP printer sounds nice, but I don't know that it can compare to my current multifunction laser printer, which was made by Sharp. I have always been impressed by how easy it is to use and I have been very pleased with the quality of each of the features. The scan is truly wonderful, I love how well the fax works, and the print quality is really vivid. While I now work for Sharp, I can honestly say that I have always been really happy with their products. I have never had a single issue with them and they have gotten A LOT of use. You should take a look at http://www.sharpusa.com/ForBusiness/DocumentSystems/MFPsPrinters.aspx.

You just pointed this out to me on the train, so I thought i would comment.

Interesting points Simon, but re: PowerPc compatibility this is a non issue. For the majority of PowerPCs out there, even Leopard was a struggle. G5s could handle Leopard, but it was a struggle for G4s. But still, there are people running Pismos wondering why they can no longer by power supplies.

In terms of Intel performance it is improved. I noticed significant reduction in loading times for my commonly used programs: Lightroom2 and Photoshop. This was a similar sort of speed increase as i saw when upgrading from a 5400 to a 7200 RPM drive in my MacBook.

If Snow Leopard was fully priced, It would be a hard sell. Given the price, and the ability to instal even an upgrade disc on a Tiger machine though, whether or not to upgrade isn't a question, it when can you spare $40.?

Repurposing an ex-business computer is a great idea. If you need a home server to store your files you can reload you old computer with VortexBox. It doesn't matter what is on your old PC already the VortexBox ISO will reformat your hard drive and install itself.

I had an old PC that had a computer virus and I reformatted it with VortexBox in about 10 minutes. Now it serves music and files throughout my home.

I am wondering about who the end users of these players are, I have some ideas but would love to hear some feedback, who are manufacturers making these for? Also, how are these items selling in the US and Canada, and who are they being sold to. Id appreciate any feedback from anyone.
